Museum of East Tennessee History K-12 Education Programs

A standard 1.5- to 2-hour visit includes a guided activity in which students actively explore the signature exhibition, Voices of the Land: The People of East Tennessee, focusing on historical themes, stories, primary artifacts, and fascinating artifacts, such as David Crockett’s first gun.

Teachers may also select one of the following hands-on, interactive programs:

OBJECTS OVER TIME: Students analyze, or “read,” an object to determine its place on a timeline keyed to important Tennessee and U.S. history events. (Grades 5-12)

DISCOVERY BOXES: Students unravel the identities of frontier era characters by collecting clues from objects in the boxes. (Grades K-4)

HUZZAH!: Students will learn about the state’s role in the Revolutionary War through this reader’s theater activity that focuses on the Reverend Samuel Doak’s stirring speech/sermon to the Overmountain Men as they gathered prior to the march to the Battle of Kings Mountain. (Grades 4-12)

Bring the Museum to Your Classroom

When a museum visit is impractical, ETHS can tailor any of the above programs for classroom presentation.
