Randi Nott of Greeneville will discuss her research into the lives and history of the slaves of President Johnson, whose emancipation in 1863 started a tradition of 8th of August celebrations across the region. Featured in the lecture will also be Sam Johnson, who, along with President Johnson appeared together at an August 8 event in 1871. The lecture is part of a series of commemorative 8th of August events presented in partnership with the Beck Cultural Exchange Center and East Tennessee PBS.
